About Richard Plender
Richard Plender is a writer based in South London. He did not graduate from Harvard, did not go on to do an MA in creative writing at the University of East Anglia, and did not then spend ten years in digital marketing. He also does not split his time between writing and a wife, dog and children. He spends his time exclusively on the former, suspecting the latter would be a dangerous and superfluous distraction. Richard has instead arrived at where he is through unorthodox pathways.
Richard chiefly writes satire, both as poetry and fiction, and enjoys subverting formulas in his writing - be that genre, style or narrative content. He has a particular interest in the ramifications of technology and bureaucracy in the modern age, including its socio-political and ethical implications.
His first short novel, The Great Gambit, explores what could happen if social media and particular online trends continue on their current trajectory.
Reviewers in thousands of alternate universes have described Richard’s writing as ‘literary’, ‘witty’, and ‘one-of-a-kind’.
When he is not writing, honing and then writing some more, Richard Plender can be found reading Dostoevsky in the original, swearing at BBC news and collecting Bolshevik Russian art.
